Social Enterprise Mark of Excellence
Sir John Oldham, presented the Social Enterprise Mark of excellence to Dr Bob Palmowski Chairman of East Lancashire Medical Services, the local out of hours, and urgent care organisation, on Friday the 15th April at Astley Bank, Darwen.
Sir John, who is the National Lead for Quality and Productivity at the Department of Health, has fond memories of being brought up in the area, and jumped at the chance of presenting the award to the organisation.
Sir John who still practises as a GP near Manchester was brought up in Pendle, attended Roughlee School and then Nelson and Colne Grammar, he went to Manchester Medical School, became a GP, and a then a Government health advisor. His father Ken was in charge of Whitehough Outdoor Education Centre at Barley; Sir John was knighted for his contribution to medical practice his mother still lives locally.
